About Shut The Front Door! Music
Shut The Front Door! Music is the Naarm/Melbourne based Artist Education and Ethical Booking group shaking things up in the world of ‘common practice’ for Australian musicians finding their feet. Co-founded by Monash Popular Music alumni and musician best friends Elkie Kershaw and Emma Cameron, this artist-created initiative came about as the pair navigated the challenges of operating as self-managed, self-funded music personnel in the Australian Music Scene. Too often they observed peers and musical acts culturally regarded as having ‘made it’ lack the artistic support and community required to operate with confidence in their entitlements and rights as a performer.
Thus, Shut The Front Door! Music was born, an Artist-Centred Educational Platform and Ethical Booking Team, who at their core prioritise the provision of entrepreneurial guidance and support for local talent. The Shut The Front Door! Music Community are committed to artist empowerment and the sustainability of one’s music career, working to combat these gaps in artist confidence of industry understanding by offering the village of support that we know is required to see an artist to success. Operating with transparency, community, and ethical consciousness is at the forefront of all Shut The Front Door! Music endeavours, and in contrast to other talent management companies, we believe in enacting a holistic culture change for the betterment of future Australian grassroot music.

Burdened and blessed by their never ending music degree, Elkie and Emma have been inseparable since 2023, where they bonded over their shared love for supporting local music and causing mischief on the Monash University Popular Music stage!
Elkie Kershaw
Making up the Tasmanian portion of the STFD!M duo, Elkie Kershaw is the indie emo-rock sweetheart widely celebrated for her melancholic yet sincere tunes which explore the universal trials and tribulations of human existence. When she isn't busy using her dry sense of humour to create music that will haunt you forever, Elkie leads a quiet life indoctrinating people into the cult of her sharehouse-mannequin Debbie, applying to be on the next season of Big Brother Australia, and humbling her British drummer Ned.
In the wider music industry, Elkie is a multi-award winning songwriter, returning Tasmanian Rock Challenge judge, fierce advocate for youth music programs, and an experienced music professional in the BIGSOUND Volunteer and 'By Popular Demand' Ch.31 TV Show spaces.
Emma Cameron
If you're ever able to catch Emma Cameron without a cup of tea in her hand, you'll have the joy of meeting one of the most highly regarded backing vocalists and vocal arrangers in the Naarm folk-acoustic pop scene. Emma is a force to be reckoned with as a performing arts administrator; having extensive experience as a Talent Co-Ordinator and Stage Manager, you can rest assured this girl WILL reply to your email!
While her own work as a songwriter lends itself to the delicacy and harmony of life's tiny beauties, her experience and passion for achieving best practice as a musician can be described as anything but small.
In addition to her extensive backing vocal and session vocalist work, Emma is a current Music Honours scholar at Monash University, an experienced music professional in the BIGSOUND Volunteer and 'By Popular Demand' Ch.31 TV Show spaces, a Lyrebird Award-winning performer, and administrative expert who has is experienced operating in the Youth Council space.
